<br />. <br /> <br />:. .i, <br /> <br />13 <br /> <br />8.2 Undertake a major river restoration project <br />in the Globeville neighborhood, surrounding the <br />Northside Treahnent Plant site <br /> <br />Resources: City and County of Denver, Urban Drainage <br />and Flood Control District, and state and federal agen- <br />cies. <br /> <br />o <br />o <br />Q <br />o <br />.... <br />CJl <br /> <br />An immediate task will be to complete adjacent to the <br />treatment plant site the last missing link in the Platte <br />River Greenway Trail, thus linking Chatfield Reservoir <br />and Adams County. <br /> <br />Location: Northside Sewage Treatment Plant, south of <br />the intersection of Franklin Street and South Platte Drive <br />West, and the surrounding area in the Globeville neigh- <br />borhood. <br /> <br />Responsible for making this happen: <br />Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (Contact: Ben <br />Urbonas. 455-6277) <br />Denver Parks and Recreation (Contact: Neil Sperandeo, <br />964-2536) <br />Denver Public Works /Wastewater Management <br />Division <br />Platte River Greenway Foundation (Contact: Jeff <br />Shoemaker, 698-1322) <br />National Civilian Community Corps (Contact: Mark <br />McCaffrey, 340-73]5) <br />Colorado Department of Natural Resources <br />Federal Emergency Management Administration <br /> <br />Next Steps: Begin design work and initiate a larger mas- <br />ter plan study for this area. <br /> <br />Time frame: Begin planning and design efforts immediately. <br /> <br />Brief description and background: <br />The City's decommissioned sewage treatment plant has <br />considerable land surrounding it (approximately 52 <br />acres) that could be developed in ways that complement <br />both the neighborhood and the River. Redevelopment <br />and restoration will be tied to Urban Drainage and Flood <br />Control District's plans to control flooding and reconfig- <br />ure the riverbank. The National Guard has also indicated <br />an interest in locating facilities for an armory at this loca- <br />tion. <br /> <br />Benefits: Will create a significant community asset in <br />Globeville. while completing the last missing link of this <br />regional pedestrian trail. <br /> <br />lu,~c,.atil.Jj~ ~(JOfJ.'
