The <br />area also had a much higher percentage of its labor force in the public <br />administration and armed forces category than did the State as a whole. <br />The major employing industries are trade, service, and manufacturing. <br />As indicated in table 5, the basin area also has a higher percentage of <br />its employment in the service and manufactyring industries than does <br />the State. This fact assumes further sign~ficance when it is reeognized <br />that the State of Colorado ranked fifth am9ng the States in percentage <br />gain of value added by manufacture betweeni1954 and 1958. Value added <br />by manufacture for 1958 was about $781 million for Colorado and $147 mil- <br />lion for the study area.
