The Geological Survey collects data on precipitation, runof'f', and <br />sediment yields in 19 small drainage 'basins whi ch represent grazed and un- <br />grazed areas. In addition, studies relating to the use of water <br />on range waterspreaders were conducted in the Little Robber area. <br /> <br />San Simon basin! Ariz.- Studies were continued on the effects of ex- <br />isting and proposed structures of the Bureau of Land Management on floor <br />regulation, sediment yield, water loss, and irrigation diversions. A <br />progress report on the results in 1957 has been completed. <br /> <br />Carrizo-Cordur~ area, Ariz.- Studies relative to the hydrologio <br />effects of pinon-juniper eradication and other types of vegetation modifica- <br />tion were continued. Recording stream..gaging stations and precipitation <br />gagelS were installed on two sample basins selected for intensive study, <br /> <br />Shee Creek area Paria River basin Utah.- Studies were started in <br />ooopera on w e reau 0 eO ama on> reau of Land Management, <br />National Park Servioe, Forest Service, and Soil Conservation Servioe to <br />evaluate the effeots of land-treatment praotices and of asediment barrier <br />on Sheep Creek on the discharge of sediment to the Paria River. A network <br />of reoording preoipitation gages began operation on April 1958. A water-stage <br />reoorder and automatic sediment sampler will be installed on the sediment <br />barrier when oompleted. <br /> <br />Channel studies,- Data oolleoted in 1957 on the Hopi Indian Reserva- <br />tion, Arizona, on the relations of clmmel aggradation or degradation to <br />ohannel elope and grain size of bed materials were compiled and analyzed. <br /> <br />40 <br />
