<br />-3- <br /> <br />This situation also will seriously affect the investications in <br />Iiestern Colorado, where they are needed to carry out the Colorado ~.rater <br />program. The Director spent a considerable amount of time while in Hash- <br />ington in presenting this situation to the Senate Appropriations Subconnnittee. <br />It is believed that an adjustment will be made in the Senate, which, of course, <br />must be sustained by the conference connnittee. <br /> <br />3. Colorado River Storage Project. The report on the Colorado River <br />Storage Project which is of vital concern to Colorado, as well as the other <br />states of the Upper Colorado River Basin, has not yet been transmitted to <br />the Washington Office of the Bureau of Reclamation by the Director of Region 4. <br />It is understood that the transmittal of this report is held up pending the <br />action of the Secretary of the Interior on the question of the storage of <br />water in the Dinosaur National Monument (Echo Park Unit of the Colorado River <br />Storage Project). Connnent<; on this report were submitted by the Upper Colo- <br />rado River Connnission and by the State of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and <br />.,1yoming. It is hoped that these comments will be recognized in the revised <br />report before it is submitted to Washington. <br /> <br />4. Echo Park Hearing. On April 3, 1950 a hearing was held before <br />the Secretary of the Interior on the question of the storage of water, as <br />proposed by the Colorado Storage Project plan, at Echo Park and within the <br />boundaries of the present Dinosaur National Lonument. This hearing con- <br />tinued all day on April 3 and until 11:30 at night. The proponents of the <br />Echo Park Project presented their testimony under the general direction of <br />the Upper Colorado River Commission acting through J. G. Will, its Executive <br />Secretary. Preparation of the testimony required a week's work in Washington. <br />The Director participated in this work and presented a statement at the hear- <br />ing. Senators Johnson and L:illikin, and Congressmen Aspinall and Larsalis <br />appeared and made statements favoring the storaQ8 of water at Echo Park. <br />Others who appeared from Colorado in favor of the project were: H. Vance <br />Austin, George A. Pughe, Gordon :Jeller and Ralph R. White.
