-ll-

the Governor to handle this matter. And in compliance with the request from
the Commission itself, the Director has prepared a list of state agencies,
various organizations and individuals interested in the question of water policy
who will be notified of exact time and place of these conferences. Since that
time further sugeestions have come to the Director and the list is being
supplemented.

The purpose of the conferences is to give the Commission an opportunity
to obtain views at the "grass roots" concerning matters pertainine to national
water policies. Ho~ever, so far as the state is concerned, reliance must be
placed on the formal statement which will be prepared and submitted in accord-
ance with the letter received by the Colorado liater Conservation Board and other
state a~encies from the Commission. It is hoped that as many members of the
ColoradoUater Conservatio~ Board as possible rr~y attend the Denver conference
of the Commission. The meetb,:'s yrill be held at the Shirley-.oavoy (Colorado
Room June 27 and Empire Hoon JU1'le 28). The meetin::s ,~ll commence at 9:30 in
the mornin:; of each dClf.

12. l:issouri Basin InteraGency Committee. The Eissouri Basin Inter-
agency Committee will mC0t in Denver July 20 and 21, 1950. The Director is
assisting in making arr:mgements for these meetings. On July 21 there will be
an "Open House" at the laboratory of the Bureau of Reclamation, Federal Center,
Denver, Colorado. This laboratory has been expa!1ded and is the largest and
most complete laboratory of its kind in the Trest. The members of the Board
will find it of great interest to visit this laboratory and they are welcome
and urged to attend the meeting of the l'issouri Basin Interagency Committee. .At
the Denver meeting the Committee will consider matters which relate to Colorado.

13. South Platte Flood Control Project. The Omnibus Rivers and Harbors
and Flood Control Authorization Bill recently passed by the Congress authorizes
the South Platte Flood Control Project for construction. The report on this
project many months ago was reviewed by the Colorado Water Conservation Board,
after careful study of the report by the Board's staff. The Board made certain
recommended changes in the project plan, all of which were adopted by the Army
Engineers before its report was submitted to the Congress. Construction of the
project cannot be undertaken until an initial appropriation for it is made.
Accordingly, actual construction ,rill not commence before July 1, 1951. An
effort vrill be made to secure such an appropriation in the next Congress. The
Director appeared before hearings by cornmittess of Congress in support of this
project.

The nroject consists of Chatfield Reservoir a short distance above Denver *
and channelization of the South l'latte below Denver to a point near the 'Cleld
Gounty line. Certain c~lar, nel rectification will take place on the Sout Platte
belovT the .ield County line.

r, (' . ') I::' ".;
v _" 1..'"'_
