MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT
AQUATRAIN PROJECT
APRIL 1983

1.0 INTRODUCTION

This report summarizes Saline Water Transport and Use Office
planning and related activities on the AQUATRAIN Project for
the previous month, anticipated activities for the next 2 months
and identifies current problems. The purpose of the report
is to inform individuals involved with AQUATRAIN of current
and upcoming activities so that a coordinated effort can be
maintained and project flag dates met.

2.0 SUBTEAM: WATER RIGHTS, WATER SUPPLY, STATE ISSUES
2.1 APRIL EVENTS

Met with State of Colorado's Energy and Employment Subcommittee
for possible involvement of minority community in project.

Conferred with planning team members on BLM data gathering
trips along corridor route.

Attended Washington, DC, meeting with Reclamation staff
to develop public involvement plans.

2.2 ANTICIPATED MAY EVENTS

May 2 - Briefing of Colorado River Basin States Salinity
Control Forum work group.

May 23 - Testimony will be given to House Interior and Insular
Affairs Committee Subcommittee on Mining, Forest Management,
and Bonneville Power Administration. It is a general hearing
on the competiveness of western coal and transportation.

May 24-26 - Meetings being set up in Washington, DC to update
Congressional staff and Federal personnel involved with
the project.

Plan to meet with Colorado River Basin States Salinity Control
Forum work group members from Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah
for 1 day per state during the month of May.

Hearing on salinity legislation.

2.3 ANTICIPATED JUNE EVENTS

June 26-28 - Rocky Mountain Coal Mining Institute meeting.
