....

.

.

FINAL - 12/10/82

NARROWS FACT SHEET NO. 2
DEW1BER 1982

Flood control storage capacity at Narrows Reservoir will be reduced, and the

Union Pacific Railroad will be relocated around the south side of the

project as previously planned.

These decisions were reached as part of preconstruct ion activities started

earlier this year. Activity was resumed in response to the House Appropriations

Committee which directed that "With available funds, the Bureau of Reclamation

should conduct appraisal work and final design work on the Narrows Unit, Colorado,

to ready the project for construction."

A second addendum to the DPR (Definite Plan Report) is now being prepared and
is scheduled to be completed during fall 1983. It will contain the updated
project plan and economic and financial data.

Flood ConttolStorage

The flood control pool will be reduced from 475,000 acre-feet to 233,000 acre-feet.

The 75,000 acre-foot joint-use pool will also be eliminated. The reduction in

space will regulate a flood estimated to have a reoccurrence interval of once

every 25 years instead of every 100 years as proposed in the 1976 plan.

By regulating the 25-year flood, the project will achieve most of the benefits
associated with regulating the 100-year flood.
