These include:

~,,~

1.

estimate present water consumption for a variety of significant

and relevant uses~

2. develop present hydrologic base conditions;

3. review computer programs for applicability to study needs~

4. estimate future water demands~

5. identify opportunities to supply future water demands~

6. define management alternatives to meet future demands~

7. estimate water availability for management alternatives~

8. develop related social, economic, and environmental data~ and

9. analyze managem~nt alternatives or combinations thereof and

define associated implications.

~.

The USGS has as a prime objective of its technical study, the

responsibility to define the amount and distribution of streamflow and ground

f'

water, and to relate these hydrologic conditions and events to factors that

control or influence migratory bird habitat.

Specifically, USGS will:

1. determine specific flow and channel characteristics for selected

locations along the river~

2. establish statistical properties of streamflows~

-9-
