Implementation of Interim Non.Native Fish Stocking Procedures,

II, Relationship to Recovery Program/Ranking Factors:

This proposal is directly related to Section 2,3-111 of the Recovery
Implementation Program for Endangered Species of the Upper Colorado
River Basin, That section of the RIP is entitled "Reduce negative
impacts of nonnative fishes and sportfish management activities,"

In response to growing awareness that careful management of nonnative
fish in the Colorado River Basin can contribute to the recovery of
endangered fish, the Service and involved states drafted interim
procedures for reviewing and potentially implementing fish stocking
proposals in waters where direct or indirect impacts could occur to
endangered fish species, This proposal establishes a review team of
State and Service biologists to oversee stocking proposals submitted
during the interim phase for the subject Procedures and to revise the
procedures as necessary,

III. Objectives;

Evaluate the effectiveness and logistical ramifications of the Interim
Stocking Procedures and collect information that can be used to modify
the procedures to improve their effectiveness in protecting endangered
fishes,
