-2 - <br />tailings pond embankment; and if necessary, to provide <br />recommendations for measures to improve the stability of <br />the dam and/or its foundation. <br />The scope of work completed during the Phase <br />II study is outlined below. <br />1) A field investigation program consisting <br />of drilling, logging, and sampling four <br />borings and excavating five test pits. <br />2) A laboratory testing program which in- <br />cluded moisture and density determina- <br />tions, Atterburg limits determination, <br />permeability tests, consolidation tests, <br />and direct shear tests. <br />3) An office engineering program in which <br />the field and laboratory test data were <br />analyzed, and the stability of the exist- <br />ing embankment was evaluated. Digital <br />computer programs were used for the sta- <br />bility analyses. <br />4) Preparation of this report which includes <br />a summary of our field explorations and <br />laboratory test data, description of the <br />existing embankment and foundation ma- <br />terials, a summary of our stability analy- <br />ses, and our conclusions and recommenda- <br />tions regarding the stability of the tail- <br />ings pond embankment. <br />GAMES !: MOORE <br />
