Sherman
Executive Director, DNR
Hal D. Simpson, P.E.
Secretary
INTRODUCTION:
License renewal/continuation includes a statutory requirement for the fulfillment of eight (8)
hours continuing education annually and submittal of a Certificate of Completion. The Board
adopted Rules and Regulations for Administration of Licensing, Financial Responsibility,
Continuing Education and Remedial Action ("BOE Rules"), 2 CCR 402-14 (2004), in part, to
assist in development of the continuing education program. Rule 8 of the BOE Rules explains
the continuing education requirement and accreditation process. Board Policy No. 2004-01
anticipates that licensed contractors may earn continuing education credit for professional
activities, including participation as a speaker at conferences offering continuing education
credit.
DISCUSSION:
Section 37-91-105(7). C.R.S. (2007), requires that each licensee "complete eight hours of
continuing education training as approved by the Board every year in order to maintain or renew
a license." To provide consistency in evaluating each contractor's fulfillment of the continuing
education requirement, the Board has determined that it is necessary to establish criteria for the
continuing education credit awarded for preparing and presenting a continuing education course.
POLICY:
The following criteria are established for the continuing education credit to be awarded as a
professional activity in preparing and presenting a continuing education course:
Continuing education credit requests for presentations must be submitted to the Board no
less than 30 days in advance of any presentation whether the course is accredited or not.
Each qualified contractor (Rule 8.2.4) presenting a continuing education course shall
qualify for the same number of continuing education credits the Board determines
eligible for the program or course (Rule 8.2.7). If the course is a part of a larger
conference, the credit hours will be determined by the length of the presentation.
The qualified contractor is eligible for continuing education credit only one time the
course is presented each year.
TIMOTHY L.
