Sherman
Application of Continuing Education Credits Executive Director, DNR
Earned Before Licensing Scott Cuthbenson, P.E.
Secretary
INTRODUCTION:
License renewal/continuation includes a statutory requirement for the fulfillment of 8 hours
continuing education annually and submittal of a Certificate of Completion. The Board adopted
Rules and Regulations for Administration of Licensing, Financial Responsibility, Continuing
Education and Remedial Action (BOE Rules), 2 CCR 402-14, in part, to assist in development of
the continuing education program. Rule 4.2.6 provides the Board's definition for "eight hours"
and Rule 8 further explains the continuing education requirement and accreditation process.
DISCUSSION:
Section 37-91-105(7), C.R.S. (2009), requires that each licensee "complete eight hours of
continuing education training as approved by the Board every year in order to maintain or renew
a license." The Board defined an "annual" period for obtaining the training in Board Policy
2007-1. To provide consistency to contractors in the year they obtain their license the Board will
accept continuing education credits earned in the same annual renewal period.
POLICY:
To provide consistency in evaluating fulfillment of the continuing education requirement, the
Board adopts the following for contractors during their first license renewal:
Eight hours of continuing education credit between January 1" and December 31" of the
calendar year in which the license was issued are accepted in order to maintain or renew a
license.
Dated this day of October 2009.
Jeffrey K.
