Verbal approvals are granted by the staff for the emergency construction of <br />wells. Occasionally, the emergency well is not constructed or drilled long after the verbal <br />approval has been granted. This raises the questions of how long should a verbal be valid and <br />how to close a file if no follow-up reports are submitted. In order to provide guidance to the staff, <br />the Board of examiners adopted the following policy: <br />Effective immediately, verbal approvals granted pursuant to Rule 18.1 shall expire <br />60 days from the date of issuance. All well construction operations performed <br />pursuant to such verbal approval shall be completed within that time unless a well <br />permit has been issued for the construction of the well. <br />This policy will be implemented by advising the drilling contractor, who is calling for the verbal, <br />of the expiration date. This date will also be recorded on the documentation of the verbal which <br />is maintained by the staff.
