U
A-7
CONSOLIDATION TESTS
Consolidation tests were performed on two rela-
tively undisturbed samples of the silty soil encountered
in Boring 1 immediately beneath the embankment. The pur-
pose of these tests was to check the moisture sensitivity
of this soil. The tests were performed in accordance
with the procedure described on Plate A-7, Method_of Per-
forming Consolidation Tests. The results of the consoli-
dation tests indicated that the soils have a slight ten-
dency to collapse when saturated at confining pressures
similar to those created by the embankment. The amount
of collapse, however, is small and not considered sig-
nificant to the stability or operation of the embank-
ment. The results of the consolidation tests are re-
tained in our files.
The following plates are attached and complete
this Appendix.
Plate A-lA and A -1B, Log of Borings
Plates A -1C and A -1D, Log of Test Pits
Plate A-2, Unified Soil Classification System
Plate A-3, Soil.
