CONSULTING ENGINEERS, INC.
L
C Mr. Thomas M. Robertson
Resident Manager
Bulldog Mountain Operation
Homestake Mining Company
P. 0. Box 100
l Creede, Colorado
Dear Tom:
June 17, 1981
Project No. RM81-271
Phase IReport
Remedial Measures for Lower Tailings Dam
Bulldog Mountain Operation
This letter report presents the results of Phase I work by D'Apppolonia
Consulting Engineers, Inc. (D'Appolonia) to develop remedial measures for
the Lower Tailings Dam at the Homestake Mining Company's (Homestake)
Bulldog Mountain Operation. As outlined in our March 6, 1981 letter, a
four -phased approach is proposed to define and solve the seepage problem
at the Lower Tailings Dam. Phase I consists of analyzing existing
information and data recently collected at the site by Homestake.
It was planned that Phase II would be implemented if Phase I was inade-
quate to define the seepage path(s) and/or remedial measures. Phase II
would involve additiona) subsurface investigation to define the seepage
conditions. Phase III is the development of conceptual remedial measures,
and Phase IV consists of the final design of the selected remedial
measure. The information, analyses, and conclusions of Phase and
recommendations for Phase II are contained in this report.
1.0 BACKGROUND
The Bulldog Mountain Operation is located approximately one-half mile
northwest of Creede, in south central Colorado. The Lower Tailings Dam
is located approximately one mile southwest of Creede and approximately
one mile south of the older upper tailings dam, as shown in Figure 1.
(: The Bulldog Mine is an underground silver mine which uses a cyanide leach
1 process to recover the silver from the ore. Tailings which result
from the milling process are pumped to a pond behind the Lower Tailings
Dam.
10 DUFF ROAD, PITTSBURGH.
