Enforcement Items and Actions

Enforcement actions consisted of complaints concerning small capacity well permits or lack thereof. Two complaints were received in the Upper Black Squirrel Designated Basin. The
first was regarding a well that has been illegally used to supply water to five homes on one lot in the town of Peyton. Staff is currently working with the owner to resolve the matter.
The second complaint received concerned a well east of Calhan. The complaint claimed a stock well was being used for irrigation and domestic purposes. After an investigation it
was determined that all the described uses are permitted for this well.

In the Kiowa Bijou Designated Basin a complaint claimed a well had been illegally constructed without permit near the town of Kiowa, and was being used for the irrigation of trees.
The well is a pre-72 stock well, and we are currently investigating the complaint.

In the Lost Creek Designated Basin a complaint was received regarding illegal use of a small capacity well to fill a pond. The owners of the well have been contacted, and staff is
awaiting their response.

Finally, through another field inspection, the staff has resolved an ongoing complaint for waste of water in the Upper Black Squirrel Creek Designated Basin. This complaint claimed
that the owner was irrigating two acres of lawn, garden, and trees. Staff’s field inspection revealed this was not the case and the file has since been closed. Following up on two
hand dug livestock wells in the Kiowa-Bijou Designated Basin near Strasburg, an inspection revealed that the owners have backfilled the excavated holes. This matter is resolved.

Miscellaneous

Staff spent time this quarter participating in other duties, of which are presented below:

Staff has attended various water quality meetings with the Water Quality Control Commission.
