1
PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06694650 SOUTH FORK SOUTH PLATTE RIVER BELOW ANTERO RESERVOIR

LOCATION.--Lat 38°33'26", long 105°53'22", 1500 ft below Antero Reservoir.

DRAINAGE AREA.--N/A

GAGE.--Satellite monitoring and graphic recorder on a 12 foot Parshall flume with a wooden shelter,
concrete well and staff gage. Starting April 1, 2004, a sharp crested Cipolletti weir with broad-
crested concrete overflow walls. Concrete shelter and well with Satellite monitoring and a
continuous chart recorder. Primary reference gage is an electric tape. Gage is owned and
maintained by the Denver Water Dept.

REMARKS.--Primary record at both gages was hourly data taken from satellite readings. Both gages were in
operation until June, but by agreement with Denver, weir use was begun in April, after the inlets
had been excavated and flushed and the ice cleared. Record was taken as follows: October 1—
November 18, complete and reliable record from Parshall Flume; November 19—December 6, possible ice
in flume, record is complete but not reliable. Discharges should be considered as estimates.
December 7--March 31, winter estimates. Daily estimates were made by Denver personnel by chopping
the ice from the Cipolletti weir and getting a once-daily reading with a hand held staff on top of
the weir blade. Primary GH data, including ice-affect, for October—March was taken from the flume.
April 1—September 30, data from Cipolletti weir was complete and reliable except for April 5 & 6
when the chart recorder failed and the SMS system was down. The record is rated as follows: October
1 to November 18, good; November 19—March 31, estimated and poor (winter ice conditions); April 1—
June 23, fair; June 24—September 30, good. Record developed by Bob Cooper and Garver Brown.

RATING TABLE.--STD12FTPF USED FROM 01-OCT-2003 TO 31-MAR-2004
MOD10FTCIP USED FROM 01-APR-2004 TO 30-SEP-2004

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2003 TO SEPTEMBER 2004
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 7.2 6.7 7.2 10 8 4 11 20 15 49 24 7.7
2 6.9 8.2 7.7 9 10 4 10 23 15 49 21 6.9
3 7.3 9.5 6.8 10 15 4 12 24 15 44 19 6.4
4 12 8.2 6.5 11 13 4 13 20 15 37 18 5.7
5 14 7.6 6.1 14 4 4 15 18 15 32 16 5
6 13 7.2 6.6 11 4 4 17 17 15 30 18 7
7 12 9.4 7 8 4 4 19 16 16 28 19 6.4
8 11 12 5 9 4 4 20 17 16 25 20 6
9 11 9.9 7 14 4 5 22 20 12 22 19 5.4
10 9.5 11 5 12 4 5 24 23 53 20 19 5.2
11 9.4 10 6 15 4 6 24 25 99 20 13 5.3
12 9.4 8.4 6 13 4 27 23 21 114 20 11 5.6
13 9.2 10 4 10 4 21 22 16 110 19 10 5.2
14 8.8 10 7 12 4 21 21 10 107 16 10 4.2
15 8.1 9.4 7 2 4 24 19 6.2 108 17 9.6 4
16 8.3 7.5 6 2 4 27 16 6.5 110 20 9.6 3.7
17 8.3 7.3 7 4 4 27 15 6.7 106 32 9.6 4
18 7.7 7 9 4 4 23 13 7 101 47 10 3.4
19 7.7 7 9 4 4 23 12 7.2 96 58 12 3.1
20 8 9.2 10 4 4 23 10 7.4 91 71 16 3.9
21 8.3 7.9 10 6 4 21 12 7.7 84 80 19 6.2
22 8.4 3.4 10 8 4 21 11 9.2 76 75 20 18
23 8.7 3.6 9 9 4 23 7.4 10 74 61 21 21
24 8.6 1.4 10 9 4 21 12 11 62 55 19 18
25 8.4 2.4 11 10 4 19 16 12 48 51 14 14
26 7.4 4.9 10 10 4 16 19 13 43 44 11 12
27 9.3 5 10 8 4 13 21 14 44 40 7.8 12
28 10 3.4 7 7 4 11 20 14 44 37 8.3 12
29 10 4.9 8 6 4 10 17 14 44 33 9 11
30 8.7 5.9 7 7 --- 10 17 14 47 31 9.1 10
31 7.6 --- 7 8 --- 10 --- 15 --- 27 8.5 ---

TOTAL 284.2 218.3 234.9 266 146 439 490.4 444.9 1795 1190 450.5 238.3
MEAN 9.2 7.3 7.6 8.6 5 14.2 16.3 14.4 60 38 14.5 7.9
AC-FT 564 433 466 528 290 871 973 882 3560 2360 894 473
MAX 14 12 11 15 15 27 24 25 114 80 24 21
MIN 6.9 1.4 4 2 4 4 7.4 6.2 12 16 7.8 3.1

WTR YR 2004 TOTAL 6197.5 MEAN 16.9 MAX 114 MIN 1.4 AC-FT 12290

MAX DISCH: 117 CFS AT 23:45 ON Jun. 11, 2004 GH 2.3 FT.
