9
PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06708000 SOUTH PLATTE RIVER AT WATERTON, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 39°29'18", long 105°05'32", in NE¼ sec. 34, T.6 S., R.69 W., Jefferson County, Hydrologic
Unit 10190002, on left bank 168 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 221, 0.4 mi south of
Waterton, 4.7 mi west of Louviers, and 6 mi upstream from Plum Creek.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--2,621 mi²; 1926 to present.

GAGE.--Graphic stage recorder, satellite monitoring DCP with a phone modem, and shaft encoder (on separate
floats) in a 60” galvanized, corrugated steel shelter and well. The primary reference is an
electric drop tape. Datum of gage 5,484.43 ft National Geodetic Vertical Datum.

REMARKS.--The primary record is hourly data taken from satellite monitoring with chart back up. The record
is complete and reliable except for January 27-28 and February 4-18 when ice could have accumulated
on the control and in the well. Temperature data was very helpful in distinguishing what could have
been ice effects. It is still difficult to distinguish on the chart between ice effect at the gage
and small levels of diurnal flow due to ice melting in the canyon. The ice days listed above
occurred on very cold days when the chart looked suspicious. The record is rated good except for
November 24, 2003-January 26, 2004, which is fair due to possible ice effect, and January 27, 28,
and February 9-18, 2004, which were estimated due to ice and are poor. Station maintained and
recored developed by Jana Ash.

RATING TABLE.--PLAWATCO09 USED FROM 01-OCT-2003 TO 30-SEP-2004

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2003 TO SEPTEMBER 2004
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 65 38 29 13 16 24 34 18 26 69 322 67
2 87 34 32 22 15 22 35 19 26 65 229 63
3 114 33 32 35 16 16 38 18 30 65 136 72
4 113 36 37 33 15 18 36 17 31 67 201 66
5 112 32 38 35 15 41 36 18 31 72 286 62
6 76 33 37 33 15 15 35 18 33 69 377 62
7 34 32 37 87 15 18 34 17 31 68 439 62
8 33 31 38 152 15 18 29 16 33 67 439 61
9 35 31 37 141 15 18 24 22 35 68 367 60
10 37 31 39 128 15 18 18 19 63 68 193 61
11 35 30 37 126 15 18 17 18 100 68 96 61
12 37 29 33 197 15 18 23 20 125 68 95 64
13 35 25 24 125 15 18 24 33 95 68 101 64
14 33 18 25 46 15 18 23 27 63 66 120 64
15 38 27 26 45 15 24 21 27 49 62 104 63
16 35 31 18 40 15 30 18 36 35 62 59 52
17 35 32 21 32 15 31 16 35 38 61 59 34
18 34 33 23 34 15 33 35 57 47 129 85 33
19 36 33 21 34 15 32 40 75 114 130 184 33
20 36 33 21 32 16 34 26 75 145 114 262 34
21 33 34 21 36 17 35 15 74 87 96 196 34
22 31 35 13 36 16 35 15 69 66 194 63 36
23 30 37 5.6 30 17 35 21 64 62 445 61 34
24 30 38 5.7 32 19 35 29 47 63 646 66 30
25 32 35 5.7 37 19 35 26 33 59 710 63 30
26 33 32 5.8 36 18 34 30 31 59 537 63 30
27 30 30 4.5 32 18 34 28 30 136 350 65 33
28 31 32 3.9 23 18 35 23 29 277 157 63 36
29 32 28 3.9 17 18 37 18 29 180 223 61 33
30 33 29 7.6 16 --- 33 19 28 90 283 63 33
31 34 --- 5.9 16 --- 41 --- 28 --- 325 64 ---

TOTAL 1409 952 687.6 1701 463 853 786 1047 2229 5472 4982 1467
MEAN 46 32 22.2 55 16 28 26 34 74 177 161 49
AC-FT 2790 1890 1360 3370 918 1690 1560 2080 4420 10850 9880 2910
MAX 114 38 39 197 19 41 40 75 277 710 439 72
MIN 30 18 3.9 13 15 15 15 16 26 61 59 30

WTR YR 2004 TOTAL 22048.6 MEAN 60.2 MAX 710 MIN 3.9 AC-FT 43730

MAX DISCH: 1050 CFS AT 11:30 ON Jul. 27, 2004 GH 2.39 FT.
