PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06733000 BIG THOMPSON RIVER(above Lake Estes) AT ESTES PARK, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 40°22'42", long 105°30'48", in NW¼NW¼ sec. 30, T.5 N., R.72 W,, Larimer County on right bank
in Estes Park, 600 ft downstream from bridge on State Highways 7 and 66, 900 ft downstream from
Black Canyon Creek, and 0.3 mi northwest of Estes Power Plant. Station is upstream from Lake Estes.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--137 mi². October 1946 to current year.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry, at 15' Parshall flume with overflow weirs and
supplemental outside gage. DCP is the primary record. Datum of gage is 7,492.5 ft above National
Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.

REMARKS.--Primary record is hourly data taken from satellite monitoring with chart as backup. Record is
complete and reliable except for the following periods: December 20-22, 2002—Inlets frozen;
December 23, 2002 to March 21, 2003—Station was closed for winter. The data can be regarded as very
reliable, as the gage is visited frequently and even 0.01 adjustments to the stage encoder are rare.
However, regular visits by the U.S.B.R. personnel are often discounted as being unreliable due to
inconsistencies in the procedures followed in reading the gage. Record is good, except for December
23—March 21, 2003 which was estimated for winter record. Station maintained and record developed
by Merlin Friedrichsen.

RATING TABLE.--BTABESCO09 USED FROM 01-OCT-2002 TO 18-JUL-2003

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2002 TO SEPTEMBER 2003
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 24 18 14 9.6 11 13 21 82 1250 408 153 106
2 30 24 13 9.7 11 14 31 71 997 388 149 91
3 34 19 13 9.8 11 14 35 66 846 388 144 93
4 31 20 13 9.9 11 14 27 74 698 369 155 102
5 31 18 13 10 11 15 24 68 572 350 145 85
6 28 19 9.9 10 11 15 22 62 495 330 131 81
7 28 19 13 10 12 16 20 60 436 305 126 85
8 29 19 12 11 12 16 19 63 380 301 126 97
9 28 20 12 11 12 17 26 66 405 308 127 97
10 26 17 12 11 12 17 40 70 508 284 119 93
11 24 17 12 10 12 18 48 66 621 267 120 89
12 22 16 12 10 12 18 56 64 581 260 117 81
13 20 20 12 10 12 18 65 74 578 259 108 76
14 21 18 12 10 12 19 80 84 586 242 102 73
15 19 16 13 10 12 19 81 125 639 242 96 65
16 19 14 12 10 12 20 72 172 612 237 89 59
17 18 17 12 10 12 20 66 271 552 241 101 55
18 18 15 11 10 12 21 64 362 613 241 148 60
19 17 15 8.6 10 12 21 56 313 602 255 161 58
20 17 16 8.6 10 12 21 49 255 558 272 120 54
21 16 15 8.6 10 12 22 48 249 564 241 101 49
22 16 15 8.6 10 12 22 51 311 503 218 93 47
23 17 15 8.7 10 12 22 56 410 504 213 92 43
24 20 13 8.7 10 12 21 55 512 511 202 94 40
25 19 13 8.8 11 12 18 56 548 472 200 101 37
26 18 11 8.9 11 12 20 66 618 368 212 97 34
27 19 14 9 11 12 16 81 739 348 241 87 33
28 18 15 9.2 11 13 16 90 930 375 203 83 32
29 19 16 9.3 11 --- 16 106 1140 399 203 97 33
30 14 14 9.4 11 --- 16 96 1290 414 187 123 33
31 19 --- 9.5 11 --- 17 --- 1210 --- 164 134 ---

TOTAL 679 498 336.8 319 331 552 1607 10425 16987 8231 3639 1981
MEAN 22 17 10.9 10.3 12 18 54 336 566 266 117 66
AC-FT 1350 988 668 633 657 1090 3190 20680 33690 16330 7220 3930
MAX 34 24 14 11 13 22 106 1290 1250 408 161 106
MIN 14 11 8.6 9.6 11 13 19 60 348 164 83 32

WTR YR 2003 TOTAL 45585.8 MEAN 125 MAX 1290 MIN 8.6 AC-FT 90420

MAX DISCH: 1460 CFS AT 23:30 ON May. 29, 2003 GH 6.57 FT.
