7

PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06707500 SOUTH PLATTE RIVER AT SOUTH PLATTE, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 39°24'33", long 105°10'10", SE¼ sec. 25, T.7 S., R.70 W., Jefferson County, Hydrologic Unit
10190002, on left bank at South Platte, 200 ft downstream from bridge on State Highway 75, and 400
ft downstream from North Fork.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--2,579 mi²; 1910 to present.

GAGE.-- A graphic water stage recorder and satellite monitoring equipment in a concrete shelter and CMP
well. The Sutron 8004 DCP was replaced with an 8210. The primary gage is an electric tape gage
mounted on the equipment shelf. The station was rebuilt with a 60” CMP well and concrete shelter in
1994. 120-volt electricity was installed in 2001. The cable way was rebuilt in 1995. The gage is
on Denver Water Board property.
REMARKS.--The primary record is hourly data taken from satellite readings with chart back up. The record
is complete. Open water record agrees with the chart to within ±0.02 ft. when pen corrections are
applied. The record is reliable except for the following days when ice was thought to have affected
the stage-discharge relationship: December 7, 2001 through March 10, 2002. The record is good for
open water conditions. Station maintained and record developed by Rodger L. Burcher.

RATING TABLE.--PLASPLCO15 USED FROM 01-OCT-2001 TO 28-OCT-2002

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2001 TO SEPTEMBER 2002
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 674 276 293 261 256 167 257 588 748 617 697 318
2 656 236 309 228 249 172 260 572 661 591 697 343
3 571 233 312 262 249 194 258 488 573 663 697 414
4 452 233 280 265 243 222 267 503 579 671 674 419
5 450 240 277 257 216 216 263 588 537 710 651 444
6 450 296 268 264 212 225 273 600 523 691 542 452
7 445 333 224 250 226 222 407 637 504 498 605 452
8 445 354 215 264 223 197 406 639 502 566 592 439
9 442 333 236 274 197 211 406 637 536 607 531 405
10 441 297 234 269 208 216 398 639 540 662 523 392
11 428 290 239 253 228 213 400 639 538 730 515 330
12 352 338 220 243 217 216 396 642 538 719 516 269
13 350 351 204 229 211 221 395 578 579 714 519 285
14 352 347 237 209 225 227 439 536 593 713 520 218
15 356 342 242 224 213 220 505 558 632 711 527 199
16 362 342 219 233 216 213 541 658 631 707 566 198
17 440 325 229 217 232 209 524 685 624 695 554 273
18 482 329 234 199 231 208 427 541 618 696 506 401
19 448 323 216 214 219 212 407 537 631 696 503 428
20 403 282 228 224 201 212 406 542 627 693 506 401
21 403 283 238 234 195 214 388 630 635 700 512 256
22 374 299 214 228 203 213 340 624 630 720 447 213
23 394 313 212 193 208 223 407 620 624 669 339 207
24 392 311 199 206 211 225 548 652 630 407 336 221
25 380 313 208 258 190 223 602 617 681 548 379 234
26 368 319 220 305 181 219 600 566 688 672 422 320
27 347 314 215 295 183 201 531 525 717 674 503 321
28 347 300 238 290 210 214 524 532 716 672 570 320
29 347 302 267 270 --- 227 524 622 672 672 491 319
30 339 307 245 239 --- 247 537 671 649 660 397 335
31 286 --- 258 208 --- 251 --- 687 --- 642 374 ---

TOTAL 12976 9161 7430 7565 6053 6650 12636 18553 18356 20386 16211 9826
MEAN 419 305 240 244 216 215 421 598 612 658 523 328
AC-FT 25740 18170 14740 15010 12010 13190 25060 36800 36410 40440 32150 19490
MAX 674 354 312 305 256 251 602 687 748 730 697 452
MIN 286 233 199 193 181 167 257 488 502 407 336 198

WTR YR 2002 TOTAL 145803 MEAN 399 MAX 748 MIN 167 AC-FT 289200

MAX DISCH: 870 CFS AT 02:15 ON Jul. 22, 2002 GH 3.77 FT.
