29
PLATTE RIVER BASIN

06714000 SOUTH PLATTE RIVER AT DENVER, CO

LOCATION.--Lat 39°45'35", long 105°00'10", in NW¼SE¼ sec. 28, T.3 S., R.68 W., Denver County, Hydrologic Unit
10190003, on right bank 90 ft Upstream from Nineteenth Street Bridge in Denver and 0.4 mi downstream from
Cherry Creek.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--3,861 mi². May 1889 to Oct. 1890 sporadic record. July 1895 to current
year continuous. Monthly data only for some periods.

GAGE.--The shelter is 72 inch by 72 inch precast concrete structure with a 48 inch corrugated steel well. The
station uses an electric drop tape, Sutron 8210 satellite telemetry with a phone modem interface (303-
297-9505), a continuous chart recorder and a supplemental outside wire weight. A city water line is
plumbed to the gage for flushing the inlets. The gage and chart recorder are maintained by DWR. The
USGS Lakewood Field Office maintains the satellite equipment and phone interface for the USCOE.

REMARKS.--The primary record is fifteen minute data taken from satellite monitoring with chart backup. Daily
maximum & minimum stages for the satellite record checked to within ±0.02 with the chart. The record is
complete and reliable. The record is considered good, except for October 9-10, 2005; July 3-5, August
13-14, and August 19-20, 2006, which are fair due to lack of confirming measurements above 574 cfs since
1999, the assumed shift above a gage height of 4.53, and the possible inaccuracies with flows being too
fast for the 50 lb weight bridge measurement and too shallow for the 75 lb weight. The yearly peak flow
recorded on August 13, 2006 is also considered fair. Station maintained by Jana Ash and record
developed by Jana Ash and Russell Stroud.

RATING TABLE.--PLADENCO33 USED FROM 01-OCT-2005 TO 30-SEP-2006

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2005 TO SEPTEMBER 2006
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 154 121 97 118 130 98 131 174 332 334 151 308
2 152 112 93 121 130 108 133 136 410 272 425 306
3 152 119 157 119 154 105 131 142 448 588 313 307
4 152 195 124 119 154 106 117 149 415 627 337 302
5 177 176 102 118 157 103 108 132 351 438 277 277
6 133 134 95 116 156 105 99 136 311 165 323 130
7 136 131 93 115 148 105 260 137 305 415 424 150
8 127 128 94 116 153 157 160 124 396 946 472 149
9 467 149 100 117 148 156 114 138 281 1390 463 148
10 1500 149 103 116 155 116 112 261 225 1150 440 127
11 479 115 107 116 130 113 109 158 220 1180 399 144
12 257 110 109 117 121 127 131 129 124 1090 401 350
13 198 113 110 115 126 148 162 111 95 874 585 246
14 165 125 108 128 126 117 124 109 80 778 671 161
15 235 157 124 134 120 112 151 104 91 496 468 154
16 236 109 135 135 124 109 117 98 197 333 355 116
17 234 127 121 131 118 107 114 106 115 432 307 113
18 171 233 119 102 115 110 202 137 135 235 383 111
19 174 166 117 132 113 150 208 196 276 199 759 105
20 181 156 119 158 117 208 127 290 186 245 459 109
21 188 168 120 135 118 188 116 300 98 310 383 290
22 182 181 125 117 124 176 104 338 88 418 383 244
23 178 186 124 116 117 158 107 572 82 459 368 241
24 180 188 123 136 96 150 128 542 131 459 355 230
25 160 187 124 134 92 169 138 487 220 432 333 224
26 148 188 124 106 91 173 114 303 132 357 299 215
27 141 191 126 110 98 174 107 376 102 496 333 210
28 122 188 126 121 98 172 245 366 84 505 446 208
29 119 181 127 114 --- 120 146 322 238 367 434 205
30 128 140 125 113 --- 118 126 347 388 346 414 206
31 141 --- 122 119 --- 135 --- 336 --- 237 321 ---

TOTAL 7167 4623 3593 3764 3529 4193 4141 7256 6556 16573 12481 6086
MEAN 231 154 116 121 126 135 138 234 219 535 403 203
AC-FT 14220 9170 7130 7470 7000 8320 8210 14390 13000 32870 24760 12070
MAX 1500 233 157 158 157 208 260 572 448 1390 759 350
MIN 119 109 93 102 91 98 99 98 80 165 151 105

CAL YR 2005 TOTAL 114414 MEAN 313 MAX 2220 MIN 83 AC-FT 226960
WTR YR 2006 TOTAL 79962 MEAN 219 MAX 1500 MIN 80 AC-FT 158600

MAX DISCH: 2860 CFS AT 22:30 ON Aug. 13, 2006 GH 6.68 FT.
