11
PLATTE RIVER BASIN

TARRYALL CREEK BELOW TARRYALL RESERVOIR, CO

LOCATION.--Lat. 39° 13’ 18”, Long. 105° 36’ 07”; in SW1/4 of sec 31, T. 9S, R. 73W, Park County, about 500 ft.
downstream from Tarryall Reservoir.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.--355 sq. mi., from DWR Dam Safety Section database. Age of the gage is not
known, although the reservoir was built in 1929. DWR first ran levels in June of 1975, and installation
in 1970’s is consistent with the type of materials used. The gage has been operated infrequently and
records have never been kept prior to 2005. The gage was activated with satellite monitoring in WY2005.

GAGE.--HDR Satellite monitoring in a 36” CMP shelter and cast iron well, located on the right downstream abutment
of a bridge on Park County Road 77. Gage is operated and equipment is maintained by the CO Div. of Water
Resources under a cooperative agreement with the CO Div. of Wildlife, the owner of Tarryall Reservoir. There
is an inside reference tape and a staff gage on the center abutment of the bridge. Elevation of gage is
8800 ft. from topographic map.
REMARKS.--Record is taken from hourly average satellite readings and is complete and reliable, except for
November 4, 2005 to March 6, 2006 when the station was closed for the winter. November 3, 2005 and March
7, 2006 were partial record days. Missing hourly values on the days of March 19,21,22,23 & 30, and the
days of April 2,3,4,5,6,7 & 12 were estimated with fair accuracy since the stage was not varying. The
DCP and SE were replaced on April 12, eliminating missing value problems for the remainder of the year.
Encoder calibration was checked with 22 visits by DWR personnel while the gage was open. The record is
good, except for the days of November 3, 2005 and March 7, 2006, which are estimated and fair. Station
operated by Garver Brown and record developed by Garver Brown and Bob Cooper.

RATING TABLE.--TARTARCO02 USED FROM 01-OCT-2005 TO 30-SEP-2006

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2005 TO SEPTEMBER 2006
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 19 14 --- --- --- --- 18 33 146 86 65 40
2 18 14 --- --- --- --- 19 32 147 86 78 37
3 16 14 --- --- --- --- 20 32 145 89 71 35
4 15 --- --- --- --- --- 20 34 145 88 71 33
5 14 --- --- --- --- --- 22 35 145 86 72 32
6 13 --- --- --- --- --- 25 38 144 108 75 31
7 14 --- --- --- --- 12 30 39 148 109 82 29
8 14 --- --- --- --- 13 30 40 152 116 76 28
9 14 --- --- --- --- 15 29 38 158 159 66 33
10 15 --- --- --- --- 15 31 40 154 228 58 36
11 19 --- --- --- --- 14 36 40 143 203 55 33
12 20 --- --- --- --- 14 35 40 128 128 54 31
13 20 --- --- --- --- 13 35 43 125 101 61 28
14 20 --- --- --- --- 13 39 49 123 82 67 26
15 20 --- --- --- --- 12 40 58 117 71 62 24
16 20 --- --- --- --- 12 41 66 116 66 62 23
17 20 --- --- --- --- 12 37 74 115 62 57 22
18 19 --- --- --- --- 12 36 83 109 65 52 22
19 18 --- --- --- --- 12 34 96 107 68 55 22
20 19 --- --- --- --- 12 30 109 115 69 66 22
21 21 --- --- --- --- 12 28 122 112 80 64 24
22 20 --- --- --- --- 12 28 143 109 80 59 27
23 19 --- --- --- --- 12 29 158 105 70 54 29
24 18 --- --- --- --- 12 32 154 99 64 49 32
25 18 --- --- --- --- 12 38 147 95 64 46 31
26 17 --- --- --- --- 13 38 146 107 92 48 30
27 17 --- --- --- --- 13 36 149 108 100 60 29
28 17 --- --- --- --- 14 36 149 99 85 57 29
29 17 --- --- --- --- 15 40 148 93 72 51 28
30 17 --- --- --- --- 15 37 145 89 64 45 26
31 16 --- --- --- --- 16 --- 143 --- 59 42 ---

TOTAL 544 42 --- --- --- 327 949 2623 3698 2900 1880 872
MEAN 17.5 14.0 --- --- --- 13.1 31.6 84.6 123 93.5 60.6 29.1
AC-FT 1080 83 --- --- --- 649 1880 5200 7330 5750 3730 1730
MAX 21 14 --- --- --- 16 41 158 158 228 82 40
MIN 13 14 --- --- --- 12 18 32 89 59 42 22

CAL YR 2005 TOTAL 9047.6 MEAN 24.8 MAX 166 MIN 8 AC-FT 17958 (PARTIAL YEAR RECORD)
WTR YR 2006 TOTAL 13835 MEAN 57.2 MAX 228 MIN 12 AC-FT 27440 (PARTIAL YEAR RECORD)

MAX DISCH: 258 CFS AT 17:00 ON Jul. 10, 2006 GH 3.9 FT.
