11
PLATTE RIVER BASIN

TARRYALL CREEK BELOW TARRYALL RESERVOIR, CO

LOCATION.-- Lat. 39° 13’ 18”, Long. 105° 36’ 07”; in SW1/4 of sec 31, T. 9S, R. 73W, Park County, about 500
ft. downstream from Tarryall Reservoir.

DRAINAGE AREA AND PERIOD OF RECORD.-- 355 sq. mi., from DWR Dam Safety Section database. Age of the gage is not
known, although the reservoir was built in 1929. DWR first ran levels in June of 1975, and installation
in 1970’s is consistent with the type of materials used. The gage has been operated infrequently and
records have never been kept prior to 2005. The gage was activated with satellite monitoring for the 2005
water year.

GAGE.--HDR Satellite monitoring in a 36” CMP shelter and cast iron well, located on the right downstream abutment
of a bridge on Park County Road 77. Gage is operated and equipment is maintained by the Colorado Division of
Water Resources under a cooperative agreement with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the owner of Tarryall
Reservoir. There is an inside reference tape and a staff gage on the center abutment of the bridge.
Elevation of gage is 8800 ft. from topographic map.
REMARKS.--Record is taken from hourly (every 15 minute) satellite readings and is complete and reliable except
for November 3, 2004 to March 25, 2005 when the station was closed for the winter. The record is
comprised of DCP data only. Encoder calibration was checked with 17 visits by DWR personnel while the
gage was open. The record is good during the period of operation, except for March 25, 2005 which is
estimated and poor. Station operated and record developed by Garver Brown.

RATING TABLE.--TARTARCO02 USED FROM 01-OCT-2004 TO 03-NOV-2004

DISCHARGE, IN CFS, WATER YEAR OCTOBER 2004 TO SEPTEMBER 2005
MEAN VALUES

DAY OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN JUL AUG SEP

1 29 18 - - - - 9.5 9.8 44 74 33 22
2 25 18 - - - - 9.7 10 49 68 34 22
3 22 - - - - - 10 10 81 66 34 21
4 22 - - - - - 10 11 109 62 41 21
5 22 - - - - - 10 11 115 59 60 20
6 22 - - - - - 10 23 104 56 64 21
7 23 - - - - - 10 29 89 59 53 22
8 24 - - - - - 27 19 81 65 44 25
9 24 - - - - - 39 19 81 62 40 29
10 23 - - - - - 37 19 97 59 40 29
11 23 - - - - - 37 19 149 54 40 27
12 23 - - - - - 37 11 148 52 44 25
13 23 - - - - - 37 8 126 50 46 22
14 23 - - - - - 37 9.5 106 47 44 21
15 22 - - - - - 36 9.5 91 47 43 21
16 22 - - - - - 37 9.5 80 46 40 20
17 22 - - - - - 36 13 77 44 39 18
18 22 - - - - - 37 17 77 43 37 16
19 22 - - - - - 29 17 81 43 34 14
20 22 - - - - - 11 16 88 42 32 14
21 19 - - - - - 15 24 97 41 35 14
22 13 - - - - - 15 29 106 41 37 15
23 13 - - - - - 12 41 117 39 36 16
24 13 - - - - - 9.4 64 130 39 33 16
25 13 - - - - 35 9.5 89 126 43 32 15
26 13 - - - - 34 9.6 126 120 50 31 15
27 13 - - - - 34 9.9 144 112 51 29 14
28 16 - - - - 19 9.8 159 98 43 28 14
29 18 - - - --- 9.5 9.8 166 87 38 27 18
30 18 - - - --- 9.5 9.6 165 83 35 25 19
31 18 --- - - --- 9.5 --- 134 --- 33 23 ---

TOTAL 627 36 - - - 150.5 615.8 1431.3 2949 1551 1178 586
MEAN 20 1.2 - - - 4.85 20.5 46.2 98 50 38 20
AC-FT 1240 71 - - - 299 1220 2840 5850 3080 2340 1160
MAX 29 18 - - - 35 39 166 149 74 64 29
MIN 13 - - - - - 9.4 8 44 33 23 14

WTR YR 2005 TOTAL 9124.6 MEAN 25 MAX 166 MIN - AC-FT 18100 (PARTIAL YEAR RECORD)

MAX DISCH: 168 CFS AT 15:00 ON May. 28, 2005 GH 3.46 FT.
