Introduction
Welcome to the Division of Water Resources’ Cumulative Yearly Statistics for 2002. This publication
provides our customers with yearly data of surface water use and ground water well application and
permitting activity. We hope you find this publication useful.
This data is collected from the Division Engineers’ a nnual reports and it represents the seven major river
basins in the state. The publication takes yearly stream delivery data , as collected by our division offices,
and presents it in two different formats. Yearly tabular data is provided for the water years 1998 through
2002. Selections of this data are also provided in a graphical format, providing a viewer-friendly way to
observe recent trends in water deliveries and ground water well permitting activities of the Division from
1998 through 2002. The severity of the drought in 2002 is evidenced in the graphs on pages 8 and 9 and
illustrate the effects of the extraordinary lo w water situation in each division.
Included in this report are statistics on the number of well permit applications received by county and the
major uses for the year 2002, and the number of completed wells by county and the primary uses through
December 31, 2002.
Subsequent publications will include the updates for the most recent completed years.
Marta Ahrens, Public Information Officer
May 2003
