STATE OF COLORADO
BOARD OF EXAMINERS OF "A FER WELL CONSTRUCTION AND PUNIP INSTALLATION CONTRACTORS
Division of Water Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 818 Denver, CO 80203 Revoked, Scroll of additional info
Phone(303) 866-3581
FAX (303) 866-3589
hltp://www.water.state.co. us/boc
BOARD POLICY NO. 2012-2
The use of Non Shrinking Cementitious grouts for grouting water wells
INTRODUCTION:
John W_ Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike Kin,
ESCQutoe Director. DNR
Icon C'uthbertson, P I;
Secreturc
Table 3 of the Water Well Construction Rules, 2 CCR 402-2 ("Construction Rules"), lists the approved
grouts for grouting water wells. A request was made to the Board to consider the approval of a non -
shrinking cementitious grout for use in the grouting of water wells that will comply with the
Construction Rules. A presentation was made to the Board at their meeting on April 3, 2012 by
representatives of one manufacturer. Also personal testimony of its use was given at the meeting.
DISCUSSION:
A non -shrinking cementitious grout contains a small fraction of Portland cement and other
cementitious material that produces a stable, rigid, non -shrinking grout. Some of the benefits of such
a product are:
• Extremely fluid and easy to mix
• Very low heat of hydration
• Does not shrink or crack
• Ultra low permeability
• Superior thermal conductivity
• NSF/ANSI Standard 60 Approved
POLICY:
Having considered the presentation, reviewed the material presented and inspected a sample of the
cured product, the Board hereby adopts the following policy:
1. Upon approval by the Board, a non -shrinking cementitious grout that meets NSF/ANSI
Standard 60 and exhibits the properties of an approved grout to prevent contaminants from
entering the borehole, separate ground waters in different aquifers, and seal off
contaminated water -bearing zones is acceptable for grouting water wells and monitoring
holes/wells, and for plugging all wells, holes, and excavations under the Board's authority.
2. The recommended mixing instructions must be strictly followed.
3. The addition of accelerators is not approved.
4. The licensed contractor is responsible for ensuring that grouting and well construction
comply with the Construction Rules.
JOSEPH T. BENDER, Arvada; OCTAVE GEORGE BLOUIN, La Veta, THERESA JEHN-DELLAPORT, Golden; ANDREW M. ROSS, Denver
