DNR <br />Icon C'uthbertson, P I; <br />Secreturc <br />Table 3 of the Water Well Construction Rules, 2 CCR 402-2 ("Construction Rules"), lists the approved <br />grouts for grouting water wells. A request was made to the Board to consider the approval of a non - <br />shrinking cementitious grout for use in the grouting of water wells that will comply with the <br />Construction Rules. A presentation was made to the Board at their meeting on April 3, 2012 by <br />representatives of one manufacturer. Also personal testimony of its use was given at the meeting. <br />DISCUSSION: <br />A non -shrinking cementitious grout contains a small fraction of Portland cement and other <br />cementitious material that produces a stable, rigid, non -shrinking grout. Some of the benefits of such <br />a product are: <br />• Extremely fluid and easy to mix <br />• Very low heat of hydration <br />• Does not shrink or crack <br />• Ultra low permeability <br />• Superior thermal conductivity <br />• NSF/ANSI Standard 60 Approved <br />POLICY: <br />Having considered the presentation, reviewed the material presented and inspected a sample of the <br />cured product, the Board hereby adopts the following policy: <br />1. Upon approval by the Board, a non -shrinking cementitious grout that meets NSF/ANSI <br />Standard 60 and exhibits the properties of an approved grout to prevent contaminants from <br />entering the borehole, separate ground waters in different aquifers, and seal off <br />contaminated water -bearing zones is acceptable for grouting water wells and monitoring <br />holes/wells, and for plugging all wells, holes, and excavations under the Board's authority. <br />2. The recommended mixing instructions must be strictly followed. <br />3. The addition of accelerators is not approved. <br />4. The licensed contractor is responsible for ensuring that grouting and well construction <br />comply with the Construction Rules. <br />JOSEPH T.
