S
BASIN ASSESSMENTS cont.
Yampa/White
Runoff is forecast to be 80% of average ranging from 80% for the Little
Snake River basin to 91% for the Laramie River basin. The flow for the month
of February for the key index station, White River near Boise, averaged 350
cfs as compared to the normal flow of 416 cfs. Yamcolo and Stagecoach
Reservoirs are currently storing 42,000 acre-feet. Soil moisture is
classified as being fair.
San Juan/Dolores
The SWSI value of -3.5 is the lowest in the state and indicates moderate
to severe drought conditions. Runoff is forecast to be 38% of average ranging
from 27% for the Dolores River above McPhee Reservoir to 44% for the Florida
River basin. The flow for the month of January for the key index station, La
Plata River near Hesperus, averaged 1.2 cfs as compared to the normal flow of
7.5 cfs. Although reservoir storage is only 38% of average, this does not
include storage in McPhee Reservoir which currently is at 274,000 acre-feet.
As McPhee Reservoir did not begin to store water until 1984, there is
insufficient historic record for comparison. Soil moisture is classified as
being very poor to critically low.
