While the recent rains have helped maintain streamflows <br /> and have benefitted irrigators, the basin still lacks sufficient water supplies for this year. The current SWSI value <br /> understates the drought conditions in this basin. Cumulative flow at the key index gaging station, Rio Grande near Del <br /> Norte, is approximately 20% below normal but well above the minimum flow recorded in 1977. Storage in the Rio <br /> Grande Reservoir is approximately 30% of normal. <br /> Outlook: <br /> The outlook for the rest of the summer depends on the availability of rain. If hot, dry weather returns, it is <br /> anticipated that streamflows will drop considerably. If the monsoon weather patterns continue, it is anticipated that <br /> streamflows will remain at a relatively high level while decreasing irrigation demands for water. <br /> 4 <br />
