GROUND WATER RESOURCES STUDY
RELATING TO PORTIONS OF
PROWERS, BACA AND LAS ANIMAS COUNTIES, COLORADO
INTRODUCTION
PUR POSE
The State of Colorado has directed that the Ground Water Com-
mission shall, from time to time, identify certain areas having ground
water supplies for consideration as a "Designated Ground Water Basin" as
described in the Colorado Ground Water Management Act, Chapter 148-18,
revised in 1965. In compliance with the Act the Ground Water Commission
has requested that R. W. Beck and Associates, Analytical and Consulting
Engineers, conduct a study of the extreme southeastern part of Colorado
which is not tributary to the Arkansas River.
SCOPE
The scope of this report includes study of the geography, geology,
hydrology and economics of the area to develop findings concerning the fol-
lowing items:
(a) The names of the water bearing geological members
of the defined formations;
(b) The boundaries of each formation being considered;
(c) The estimated quantity of water stored in each for-
mation;
(d) The estimated annual rate of recharge;
(e) The estimated historical use of the ground water in
the area;
(f) The estimated projected use of the ground water in
the succeeding fifty years at ten-year intervals;
(g) All water users in the study area registered with the
State Engineer's Office.
