This report represents the results of water level measurements of wells in the North
Kiowa-Bijou Ground Water Management District, Kiowa-Bijou Designated Basin made
during the monthS of March and April 1989. This project was done in cooperation with
the North Kiowa-Bijou Ground Water Management District of the Kiowa-Bijou Designated
Basin and local well owners. Funding for this project was supplied in part from well permit
fees collected and managed by the Office of the State Engineer as a result of the passage
of Senate Bill 200 during the 1987 legislative session.
A total of 37 wells were measured and 39 sites visited. Changes in water level
between the 1988 measurements and the 1989 measurements range from a decline of 4.66
feet in T1S, R60W, Sec. 17, to a rise of 1.93 feet in T1S, R62W, Sec 2. The average for
the entire basin is a decline of 0.84 feet if the well in Sec 6, T2S, R60W is excluded due
to recent nearby pumping. Water level changes for the period of 1980 to 1989 range from
a decline of 13.99 feet in T2N, R59W, Sec. 20, to a rise of 13.25 feet in T1S, R62W,
Sec.22. The average for the basin over the period of 1980 to 1989 is a decline of 0.55 feet.
One Arapahoe bedrock well was measured in Sec.13, T3S, R63W and showed a
decline of 15.01 feet since last year. This figure is most likely caused by recent pumping
of the well. Over all decline since 1980 has been 4 feet. Further information concerning
water levels in bedrock wells can be obtained from the water level report for bedrock
wells in the Denver Basin which will be published by the Office of the State Engineer in
June.
The table of water level measurements included is organized by location. Information
presented includes, location, owner, water levels measured in 1980, the 1988 measurements,
the 1989 measurements and change from 1988, and the change in water level since 1980.
Aquifer designation and remarks are also included.
Copies of this report are being made available to well owners for their assistance
in this project. Additional reports are available from the Office of the State Engineer, 1313
Sherman Street, Room 818, Denver, Colorado 80203 for a cost of $ 1.50.
