WATER LEVELS IN THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS
DESIGNATED GROUND WATER BASIN -1994
The purpose of this report is to provide 1994 water level measurements from monitoring wells in the
Southern High Plains Designated Ground Water Basin. The project is ongoing, with the cooperation
of local well owners as well as the Southern High Plains Ground Water Management District.
Funding for the project is provided in part by utilizing revenues generated by Senate Bill 2001
passed during the 1987 legislative session. Well measurements of water levels were conducted by
Mr. Lloyd Hershey of the Colorado Division of Water Resources.
In the 1994 measuring period, a total of 77 water level measurements were obtained, including two
measurements from Colorado Interstate Gas Company and two from the Town of Springfield. Three
wells were not measured because two wells, Local Numbers 2 and 11, were removed from the
network due to access problems, and the third well, Local Number 14, was pumping at the time a
measurement was to be taken. Two new wells, (SCO2804835DCD and SCO31050007ACC), were
added to the network in the 1994 measurements. Measurements were made starting February 22,
1994 and were completed March 4, 1994.
The aquifer designations used on the following hydrographs, data sheets and figures are as shown
in the following Table 1.
Table 1 - Aquifer Descriptions
' Arithmetic average of monitored wells. ** estimated - no data available.
*< = slightly less than
*> = slightly greater than
Avg.
