DakotaAquifer
1n 2003, water level data indicates five wells completed exclusively in the Dakota aquifer
experienced a decline ranging from -0.40 feet to -5.00 feet as compared to wells declining in
2002 from -0.20 to -0.40. Rises on wells completed in the Dakota Aquifer range from +0.20 feet
to +33.0 feet.
Cheyenne Aquifer
The area of greatest decline in water levels of wells penetrating exclusively the Cheyenne aquifer
was northeast of Two Buttes where a -6.60 feet decline was recorded in 2003 as compared to a
Cheyenne aquifer maximum decline of -1.40 feet in 2002 southeast of Springfield. The range of
decline of the Cheyenne aquifer for 2003 was -1.00 to -6.60 feet. The average 2003 decline
was -3032 feet as compared to -0.87 feet average decline in 2002. Rises of water levels of
Cheyenne aquifer wells range from +0.10' to +4.30'. In 2003, the average rise equaled +1.55
feet, as compared to the average rise of +2.11 feet in 2002.
The Dockum aquifer declines range from -0.10 feet east of Stonington to -12.70 feet of decline
immediately northwest of Stonington (as compared with -17.60 feet decline north of Walsh in
2002). The arithmetic average of Dockum aquifer declines over the entire network was -3.51
feet in 2003 as compared to -4.35 feet in 2002, and as compared to -4.20 in 2001. Seven
Dockum Aquifer wells experienced a rise averaging +8.51 feet in 2003 as compared to an
average rise of +1.20 feet in 2002.
Dakota,/Cheyenne A uifer
Water level changes in wells producing from a combined Dakota -Cheyenne aquifer range from a
+4.80 foot rise north and east of Walsh to a -4.80 foot decline east of Two Buttes. The average
water level change of Dakota/Cheyenne aquifer wells measured was +1.27 feet change in 2003 as
compared to +0.51 average change in 2002.
4
