WATER LEVELS iN THE SUTHERN HIGH FLAINS
DESIGNATED GRUND WATER BASIN
1992
The purpose of this report is to furnish results of water-Ievel measurements from
monitoring wells in the Southern High Plains Designated Ground Water Basin made during
the spring of 1992. The project is done in covperation with loal well owners and the
5outhern High Piains Ground Water Management District. Funding for this project is
supplied in part from well pernut fees collected and managed by the Colorado Division of
Water Resources as a result of the passage of 5enate Bill 200 during the 19871egislative
session. Well measurements were made by Mr. Lloyd Hershey of ie Division.
During the well measuring period, 78 well site were visited and b8 wells measured. Ten
wells were not measured due to pumping of the well. Measurements were made
approximately one month later than last year due to scheduling problems. Wells measured
are completed in either the gallala, Dakota, Cheyenne or pocum Aquifers or in some
combination of aquifers. The aquifers are designated on hydrographs and data sheets as
follows:
To 4gallala Aquifer
Kd Dakota Aquifer
Kc Cheyenne Aquifer
TRd Docum Aquifer
f the wells measured both in 1991 and 1992, 28 showed water level rises; 29 showed
water level decreases and two showed no change. The average change for all wells was
a decline of D.bS feet. Changes per aquifer or aquifer combination are as follows:
AUUIFER
gallala (To)
Dakota (Kd)
Cheyenne (Kc}
- 0.3 feet
+ .b feet
+ 0.4 feet
Docum (TRd) - .4 feet
AQUiFER COMBINATIDNS
gallala/Dakota (To,Kd) - 2.1 feet
gallala/Docum ETo,TRd) - 8.5 feet
Dakota/Cheyenne (Kd,Kc} - 2.5 feet
Dakota/Cheyenne/Docum
(Kd,Kc,TRd} + 2.3 feet
