KIWA-BIJU DESIGNATED GR+DUNDWATER BASIN
March 201
This report represents water leel measurement data for the North Kiowa-Bijou Ground
Water Managemen# District for the ZD1 season. This project was done in cooperation with the
Management District and with local well owners. Funding for the project is suppfied in part from
weil permit fees collected and managed by the Office of the State Engineer as a cash fund
designated for use in obtaining ground water information throughout the state.
A total of 3fi wells were measured durng the month of February 2001. These wells are all
part of the observation well network that has been measured for many years. Records on at least
one well date back to 1936. However, mos of the wells date from the 1950's and 95D's.
Unfortunately we were unable to measure the entire nerinrork in 2n0 and the one-year change for
wells measured may not be representative of changes for 20D0 tv 201. Water level changes for
14 wells measured between 204Q and 2D1 range from a decline of 2 feet to a rise of 1 foot. The
aerage change for the 20 to 2001 period is a decline of 1.4 feet compared to a decline of
D.971 feet between 1998 and 1999. For the last five years, the average decline in the basin has
been .45 feet per year. The aerage decline for the last 1 years has been a decline of 0.5fi
feet. The northern half of the basin exhibits declining water levels with the greatest deciines being
in the most northerly portion af the basin.
Included in this report are water level data and hydrographs for all wells currently in the
monitoring netwvrk. Information concerning bedrock wells for the Dener Basin Aquifers will be
availabie in June vf this year and can be obtained from te Qffice of the State Engineer.
Copies of this report are being made availabYe to all well owners whose wells were
measured as part of this project. Additional copies of the report can be purchased frvm the ffice
of the State Engineer.
