L4ST CREEK DEStGNATED GROUND WATER BASIN
2oos
.
This report represents the results of water leel measurements of wells in the Lost Creek
Designated Ground Water Basin during the month of February 28. The project was done in
cooperation with the Lost Creek Ground Water Management District and local well owners.
Funding for this proect was supplied in part from well permit fees collected and managed by the
4ffice of the State Engineer as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 200 during the 1987
legislative session.
Eighteen monitoring wells in the basin were measured on February 26, 208. These wells are all
part of an observation network that in at some wells dates back to the 1930's. However,
observatians for many of the wells didn't start until the 1950's and 1960's. Two wells were lost to
the monitvring network because new pumping equipment eliminated access to the well, or the
well was abandoned. Efforts are planned later in 2008 to identify replacement wells for the
network.
In 2008, all of the measured wells except three, S-12, N-6 and N-7, show water level declines over
the preious year. The aerage water ieel for all wells in the basin declined 0.56 feet from 2007
to 2008. This compares tv an average decline of 1.59 feet for the previous year. The average
decrease for the last five-year period was .05 feet per year, and for the last ten-year period, a
decline of 0.86 feet per year. erall, the water level trend for the basin had been stabie or
increasing since the mid-1970's, but by and large reersed sharply around 20. Generally, north
of Interstate 76, the water levels are within approximately 20 feet of the surface and with ground
water in a few wells within fie feet of the surFace. Befin►een Highway 52 and Interstate 76, water
levels are between 25 feet and 45 feet of the surface. Water leels south of Highway 52 range
from 45 feet to over 110 feet below the ground surface.
A map is attached which shows the Iocativns of the monitoring wells in the Lost Creek Basin. This
year an additional map is attached which depicts the magnitude of water level changes from 2003
to 2oos.
Tabular data in this report are presented for each well for the preious 1 years. Graphical data
are presented far the entire period of record. Information concerning bedrock wells for the Denver
Basin Aquifers will generally be aailable in June of each year and can be obtained from the
4fFice of the State Engineer. Complete tabular data for the Lost Creek Designated Ground Water
Basin are aailable by calling the Office of the State Engineer.
Copies of the report can be purchased from the Office of the State Engineer, Records Section,
1313 Sherman St., Room 821, Dener, C 823, {303) 866-3447. Additionally, this data may be
accessed on the internet at the Colorado Decision Support System website http:/lcdss.state.co.us
and can be exported to a number of different formats.

s
