LOST CREEK DESIGNATED GRDUND WATER BASIN
zos
This report represents the results of water leel measurements of welis in the Lost Creek
Designa#ed Ground Water Basin made during the month of February 206. The project was done
in cooperation with the Lost Creek Ground Wa#er Management District and local well owners.
Funding for this project was supplied En part from well permt fees collected and managed by the
Office of the State Engineer as a result of the passage of 5enate Bill 200 during the '1987
legislative sessivn.
Nineteen monitoring weils in the basin were measured, one well could not be measured
because it was pumping and one well was dropped from the monitoring program. Well S-1 A has
not been measured since 1999 because a change in the pumping configuration rendered the wel
inaccessible in that year. These wells are al part of an observation network that has been
measured fvr many years. Records for one well dates back to the 1930's, however, obserations
for many of the wells didn't start unt! the 950's and 1960's. All of the measured welis indicafe
water leel declines over the previous year. The average decline for the pas# year was 0.65 feet.
This compares to an aerage decline of 1.76 fieet for the previous year. The average decrease
for the last fie-year period was 1.00 feet per year, and for the last ten-year period, a decline of
.sfi feet per year. verall, the water level trend for the basin had been stable or increasng since
the mid 197's, but has generally revesed sharply around 2000 due to below normal precipitation
of the past several years. Generally, north of Interstate-76, the water levets are within 2 feet of
the surface and with ground water in few wells within five feet of the surface. Between Highway
52 and Interstate 7fi, water levels are between 25 fee# and 45 feet of the surFace. Water leels
south of Highway 52 range from 45 feet to over 110 feet below the ground surFace.
Tabular data in this report are presented for each wei! for the previous 10 years.
Graphical data are presented for the entire period of record. Information concer-ning bedrock
wells for #he Denver Basin Aquifers will generally be aailable in June of each year and can be
obtained from the ffice of the State Engineer. Complete tabular data for the Lost Creek
Designated Ground Wa#er Basin are available by calling the ffice o the State Engineer.
Copies of the report can be purchased frvm the ffice of the State Engineer, Records
5ection, 1313 5herman St., Room 82 , Dener, C 80203, (303) 866-3447.
