This report contains the basic ground water level data coliected in the Upper Big
Sandy Designated Ground Water Basin during the period from February 199
through February 2006. Acquisition and pubfication of this information is a
cooperative effort between the Upper Big Sandy Ground Water Management
District and the Colorado Division of Water Resources. The project is part of a
statewide ground water leel monitoring program funded by Senate Bill 20 (1987
legislatie sessfon}. This legislation directed that a portion of the fees collected for
water weli permit applications be used for the establishment of a program to
monitor water leve! trends throughou the state.
With the exception of one group of wells, the wells in #his report are listed by
township, range, and section, beginning at the north end of the basin and
proceeding south. The exception consists of five of the seven monitoring and
production welis owned by the Town of Limon. The data sheets for the fie
monitoring wells located in #he vicinity of the town have all been placed together a#
the back of the report. The Iocations of these five wells are shown on a map or
maps included with the data sheets. The data sheets for the town's Frasier Farms
production well and the well identified as Big Sandy No. 4 are indexed by location.
Maps are included with the report that show the locations of wells in both groups.
The report contains water level masurements for twenty-nine wells monitored on a
regular basis. ne well could not be measured in February 206 because it had
been converted from an irrigation we!! to a domestic water supply well, and down
hole pumping equipment obstructed the well bore. Hydrographs are presented for
wells with more than fie annual measurements. Water ieel measurements in
wells were taken on February 20 and February 21, 200fi.
The twenty-nine wells measured for this year's report show an aerage water leel
decline vf -0.18 foot since March of 25. Water leels increased in eight of the
wells, and decreased in nineteen of the we(Is, and remained the same in two wells.
The changes ranged from an increase of 1.08 feet to a decline of —1.25 feet. The
Town o Limon's Christopher Well Field welfs, wiih the exception of one well, which
remained the same, showed increases in the s#atic water leel.
For the last fie years, ground water levels have declined at an aerage rate of
—0.39 foot per year, whereas over the fast ten years, the aerage rate of decline
has been —0.08 foot.
Gopies of the report can be purchased from the ffice of the State Engineer,
Records Section, 313 Sherman 5t., Room 821, Dener, C 80203, (33} 866-
3447.
