INTRODUCTION
This report contains the results of water level measurements of wells in the Northern High
Plains Designated Ground Water Basin made during the winter of 2006-07. Data were collected
in cooperation with the W -Y, Frenchman, Central Yuma, Sand Hills, Marks Butte, Arikaree and
Plains Ground Water Management Districts, and local well owners and users. Funding for this
project was supplied in part from well permit fees collected and managed by the Office of the
State Engineer as a result of the passage of Senate Bill 200 during the 1987 legislative session.
This bill authorized the Office of the State Engineer to establish and maintain a water level
monitoring network throughout the state to obtain information on ground water conditions, to
establish ground water trends and to manage the ground water resources of the state.
A new report format was created for the 2004 report and this format is continued in the
2007 report. This is the result of placing all statewide water level data into HYDROBASE, which is
a uniform database for all data collected and managed by the Division of Water Resources.
Tabular data are presented for each well for the previous 10 years and graphical data are
presented for the entire period of record. It is anticipated that continual improvements in data
presentation and format will be made in future editions of this report. The report is organized by
Ground Water Management District and sorted by location within the district.
Copies of this report are available for inspection in the offices of the local ground water
management districts as well as the Office of the State Engineer. Copies can be purchased from
the Office of the State Engineer, 1313 Sherman Street, Room 821, Denver, Colorado 80203, for a
fee to cover the cost of printing and handling. Additionally, this data may be accessed on the
internet at the Colorado Decision Support System website http://cdss.state.co.us and can be
exported to a number of different formats.
