WATER LEVELS IN THE ALLUVIAL AQUIFERS
OF THE LOWER SOUTH PLATTE RIVER BASIN
2007
This report contains basic data concerning the depth to ground water and elevation
of the occurrence of ground water in the alluvial aquifers of the Lower South Platte
River Basin during the fall of 2007 and spring of 2008.
The monitoring network consists of approximately 105 wells. Data was obtained for
a total of 53 wells in 2007. The report contains data from these wells as well as
other wells which are part of this monitoring effort, but for which data were not
obtained in 2007. Historic data for all wells which are part of this monitoring effort
are included in the report. Wells that have not been measured in ten years have
been dropped from the publication. Semiannual data consistent with the format of
this report is included from the 36 monitoring wells used by the South Platte
Decision Support System. Daily average data calculated from the SPDSS hourly
measurements has been graphed and is included as appendix A.
Water level measurements in this year's report were obtained by Colorado Division
of Water Resources Water Commissioners and Elizabeth Pottorff. Measurements
are usually taken twice a year, typically in the spring before irrigation pumping
commences and again in the fall after irrigation pumping has ceased. The Division
took over collection of the SPDSS data in the Spring of 2008 with the assistance of
Robert Longenbaugh and funding from the Com Growers Association. Locations of
the observation wells are shown on Figure 1.
Water level changes were not analyzed.
Copies of this report are made available to well owners and participating entities
free of charge. Additional copies may be obtained from the Colorado Division of
Water Resources, Public Records Section. The Records Section can be contacted
at 1313 Sherman Street, Room 818, Denver CO 80203, or by phone at 303/866-
3581 or 303/866-3447. Additionally, this data may be accessed on the internet at the
Colorado Decision Support System website http://cdss.state.co.us/DNN/default.aspx
and can be exported to a number of different formats.
