WATER LEVELS IN THE ALLUVIAL AQUIFERS
OF THE LOWER SOUTH PLATTE RIVER BASIN
2006
This report contains basic data concerning the depth to ground water and elevation
of the occurrence of ground water in the alluvial aquifers of the Lower South Platte
River Basin during the fall of 2005 and spring of 2006. Water levels were not
measured for many wells in the fall of 2004 and the spring of 2005. This report was
not published in 2005 for lack of data.
The monitoring network consists of approximately 78 wells. Data was obtained for
a total of 47 wells in 2006. The report contains data from these wells as well as
other wells which are part of this monitoring effort, but for which data were not
obtained in 2006. Historic data for all wells which are part of this monitoring effort
are included in the report. Thirty-two monitoring wells used by the South Platte
Decision Support System are added this year.
Water level measurements in this year's report were obtained by Colorado Division
of Water Resources Water Commissioners, Michael Schaubs, and Elizabeth
Pottorff. Measurements are usually taken twice a year, typically in the spring before
irrigation pumping commences and again in the fall after irrigation pumping has
ceased. Locations of the observation wells are shown on Figure 1.
Water level changes were not analyzed
Copies of this report are made available to well owners and participating entities
free of charge. Additional copies may be obtained from the Colorado Division of
Water Resources, Public Records Section. The Records Section can be contacted
at 1313 Sherman Street, Room 818, Denver CO 80203, or by phone at 303/866-
3581 or 3031866-3447. Additionally, this data may be accessed on the internet at the
Colorado Decision Support System website http://cdss.state.co.us and can be
exported to a number of different formats.
