III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
CLIMAX MVLY9BDENUM COMPANY y !
A DIVISION OF AMJ%3<INC.
13949 WEST COLFAX AVENUE • GOLDEN, COLORADO SO401
(303)234-9020
WESTERN OPERATIONS /
July 10 , 1980
Mr. Robert Turner, Chairman i
Mined Land Reclamation Board
Centennial Building , Room 423
1313 Sherman Street
Denver , Colorado 80203
Dear Mr. Turner:
Attached is an application for amendments to the existing
Mining/Reclamation permit number 77-493 for the Climax Mine as
required by Colorado Revised Statutes 1973 , 34-32-101 , et. seg-
and by The Regulation of the Mined Land Reclamation Board.
The amendment is mainly comprised of what might be termed
housekeeping items. It does not reflect any significant change
in the Climax mining plan. The amendment does incorporate
significant increases in both the permitted acreage and the
affected land acreage . The reasons for these increases are :
1 . Pre-1969 disturbed lands - Our original permit
excluded a number of island areas within our permit
boundary, all of which had been disturbed prior to
1969 . We had no intention of redisturbing these
areas. We now realize we occassionally need access to
certain of these areas and wish to accept responsi-
bility for reclamation and bonding of these previously
affected lands.
2. Unaffected island areas - Our original permit also
excluded a number of small island areas of unaffected
land within the permit boundary. We now realize that
approach was impractical and wish to include these
areas in our permit.
3. Buffer Zone - Besides requiring room for expansion,
Climax now realizes a definite need for some buffer
zones around our operation. To facilitate both
expansion and buffer, Climax is applying to exchange
approximately 3 ,000 acres wth The U. S. Forest
Service.
r
