Berry, David
From: Berry, David
Sent: Thursday, May 06, 2010 4:52 PM
To: Brown, Sandy; Talvitie, Marcia
Cc: Berry, David; jfulton @osmre.gov; Pineda, Loretta
Subject: Jo Ellen Turner
I just spoke with Sergeant McClellan, Montrose County Sheriff's Office (970- 864 -7333) regarding the JoEllen Turner voice
message. He indicated that he understands the concern, does not have enough to file a complaint, but does have
enough to contact Ms. Turner. He indicated a long history with Ms. Turner and that her behavior has never escalated
beyond verbal expression of anger, but that it is good to be cautious. He will contact Ms. Turner and indicate that
threats will not be tolerated, and that such behavior may result in future charges.
I indicated to him that Ms. Turner has some valid concerns, and that if she could calm down, we might be able to assist.
However, I cannot take the chance that she might be a threat to my staff. He asked if he could convey that message, and
I indicated that he could. He offered that his involvement might temporarily escalate the situation, but we agreed to
proceed to be cautious.
I asked his advice about whether should DRMS /legal should send a letter to Turner indicating that threats will not be
tolerated and that such behavior may lead to further referral to law enforcement. He agreed that such a letter would be
appropriate. I will draft one for review by AGO.
