<br />RE: Formal section 7 consultation for the Collom Expansion of Colowyo Mine owned and
<br />operated by Colowyo Coal Company L.P., Colorado State Permit C- 1981 -019
<br />The Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement (OSM) Western Region is initiating
<br />formal section 7 consultation for the above subject facility at the request of the Colorado
<br />Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (CO- DRMS).
<br />The Colowyo Coal Company L.P. (Colowyo) is proposing to expand the current permit
<br />boundary to incorporate the Collom Area (16,833.33 acres), for a total permit area of 29,084.20
<br />acres. The proposed Collom mining area within the permit revision will include a total disturbed
<br />area of approximately 2,244.22 acres, which includes a proposed reduction of 212 acres (see
<br />proposed mitigation strategies section).
<br />The Collom Area is located south and west of the previously approved permit boundary. This
<br />expansion area is located within Federal Coal Leases C- 0123475, C- 0123476, COC- 68590, and
<br />State Lease 257 -13s, which includes all or portions of:
<br />Township 3 North, Range 94 West of the 6 P.M.
<br />Sections 1, 2, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 22, and 23
<br />Township 4 North, Range 94 West of the 6 P.M.
<br />Sections 12, 13, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 34, 35, and 36
<br />Township 3 North, Range 93 West of the 6th P.M.
<br />Sections 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 28, 29, and 30
<br />Township 4 North, Range 93 West of the 6 P.M.
