MINE ENGINEERING
MINE RECLAMATION
August 14, 2012
J. E. STOVER & ASSOCIATES, INC.
2352 NORTH 7 STREET, UNIT
GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO 81501
PHONE: (970) 245 -4101, FAX 242 -7908
Brock Bowles
Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie No. 1 Mine
Technical Revision No. 54,
Revise channel lining for reclaimed Ditch 7
Permit C- 1981 -038
Dear Mr. Bowles:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
RECEIVED
AUG 16 2012
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
On behalf of Bowie Resources, LLC, enclosed is an application for a technical revision to
change the design for reclaimed Ditch 7.
Ditch 7 was reclaimed in 2008. Riprap was placed, and the surrounding area was topsoiled
and seeded. Ditch 7 is currently specified to be plated with 3 -8" riprap. This technical
revision will change the lining material for the upper segment of the ditch, and increase the
required diameter of riprap in the upper, middle and lower segments of ditch 7.
The channel lining in the upper segment of Ditch 7, as shown on attached Figure 1, will be
changed to grouted riprap. The grout will be a low strength concrete and the purpose is to
fill the voids between the rock in order to anchor the riprap on the steep slope. To the extent
possible, the grout will be placed between the rocks, so the roughness (Manning's n) will not
change.
Supporting documentation follows.
No increase in bond required. Ditch 7 is a permanent drainage feature.
Sincerely,
Tamme Bishop, P.E.
Project Engineer
cc: Basil Bear
Enclosures:
Volume 6A: Pages 6a -6e
