BOARD Of COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
T i
San Juan County
P.O. Box 466 Silverton, Colorado 81433 303-387-5671
37<F-
Mined Land Reclamation Board September 27 , 1993
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street , Room 215
Denver , Colorado 80203
Ref : Technical Revision for Sunnyside Gold Corporation.
Dear Board Members ,
This letter is written in response to the notice for public hearing to
be held by the Mined Land Reclamation Board regarding the placement of four
reinforced concrete bulkheads at the Sunnyside mine .
To require Sunnyside Gold Corporation to plug the portals is a major
mistake that represents a permanent loss of valuable mining property. It
is always possible that future technology could create an opportunity for
renewed mining activity.
I believe that there is no significant damage occurring from the water
that is discharged from Sunnyside mining properties . The greatest amount
of pollution in these waters occurs naturally.
Current regulations are too severe and impose unnecessary restriction
on a company that has provided a great economic stability to the local area
and contributed to the federal coffers as well .
I ask that you absolve Sunnyside Gold from any further responsibility;
and that you make every effort to consider the needs of the mining industry
and the communities that it serves , and work to initiate appropriate change
in legislation.
Sincerely,
'i 1-
Richard Periric, , Commiss toner
19003 San Juan Couni-y; Colorado
