89 <br /> TAB 9 <br /> ATTACHbIENT 9-2C <br /> SOIL SURVEY ADDITION - SHOP AREA <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Peabody Coal Ccmpany will disturb approximately 4.8 acres of native <br /> soils within the 29.6 acre shop and facilities complex. To determine <br /> the quality and quantity of topsoil to be removed from this area, the <br /> following soil assessment was ccinpleted. <br /> DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA <br /> The shop Area Soil Survey Addition is located in the immediate vicin- <br /> ity of the Nucla Mine Office within the E 1/2 SW 1/4 SE 1/4, Section <br /> 25 and W 1/2 SE 1/4, SE 1/4, Section 25, Township 47 North, Range 16 <br /> West in Montrose County, Colorado. The field soil survey map bound-' <br /> ary extends beyond the anticipated disturbance area. This survey <br /> area is delineated on the Soil Type Map (Exhibit 9-1) and Stockpile <br /> Location Map (Exhibit 9-2) . <br /> THE SOILS <br /> Peabody Coal Ccmpany, in conjunction with the USDA, Soil Conservation <br /> Service, Norwood, Colorado conducted a reconnaisance of Nucla Mine <br /> surface soils in 1975. This soil survey, completed on aerial photos <br /> flown July 22, 1975, included the shop area. The survey showed soil <br /> 9904, Persayo-Shavano clay loams on sloping to moderately steep ridge- <br /> tops and steep sideslopes. Soils 1004 and 5810, Chapin clay loam and <br /> Shavano fine sandy loam occupies the gently sloping to sloping uplands. <br />
