Tom Kaldenbach
Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
Sincerely,
Steve and Laurie Stratman
November 3, 2010
0 ! S Pue btv.4 -sr
P,
X 114 — 0 It / cfrr yT
 ;Eli, •
1''Q J 0 3 2011
D ivision or Reclamation,
I am writing to make comments regarding a certified letter I received from a representative for
Continental Materials Corporation dba Transit Mix of Pueblo.
Along with two other parties, I co -own a well (Permit Number 051314F) within 600' of property
that Transit Mix is proposing to mine Several months ago they contacted us regarding their
plans. With permission from the well owners they did GPS location, water level measurement,
and water quality test. They also held a couple of meetings between us and various Transit Mix
employee's and agents.
I own 50% of the well 51314F and there are two 25% owners. Transit Mix has asked the three
owners to sign GWS -38A 600' Well Spacing Statement and a contract of how they will mitigate
well problems. The two 25% owners have the Well Spacing Statement and the contract.
My wife and I are a licensed foster care home, we have had as many as seven people living in the
home at one time. With that many people living in the home and the large lawn, our water
requirements are greater than normal. I own 100% of a second well that serves my house and
has served it satisfactorily. This second well is just outside of the 600' spacing requirement.
However, Transit Mix operations might affect the well serving my house and has not addressed
how they will mitigate problems if they arise on that well. If they affect the house well my back
up is to use the well I own 50% of. I have concerns that Transit Mix has not addressed with
mitigating problems. 1.) Transit Mix has not specified the size or type (concrete /plastic) of the
cistern. 2.) Who will maintain the cistern and pump (tank cleaning and pump repair). 3.) What
will they do if the quality and quantity of water does not return after the mining operation.
Enclosures: GWS -27 Gravel Pit Well Permit Application, GWS -11 Well Ownership /Location
.:40)
