October 17, 2011
Timothy A. Cazier
Environmental Protection Specialist
RE: Lafarge West Inc. Hartman Pit, Permit No. M -1997 -087
Dear Sir,
Division OT r«ciarration,
Tv ;Vining soc` Sa airy
I received your letter dated October 11, 2011 requesting comments and objections
to the request for full reclamation - responsibility release of the above pit- - -
In response; I am objecting to the release on the grounds that the propery is far
from reclaimed, as much of the affected acreage continues to be open ground containing
nothing but scatered weeds.
I have pastured this property and the adjoining pastures for better than 30 years
and I have personal knowledge of the history and current state of the vegetation on this
land. To the best of my knowledge there was only one seeding of permanent grass(es)
applied to the property. Due to the drought conditions, it would be a fair estimation that
only 25% of the revegetation would be considered permanent at the present time.
I would invite you to come for a personal inspection of the property and current
conditions. You will find that the property needs more work, seed and management to be
properly revegetated and match the conditions of the surounding property.
Therefore, I would ask that you turn down the LaFarge request for release until
they have met the proper obligations of the reclamation.
Sincerly,
Bert Hartman
Hartman Land & Cattle LLC
36540 South Rd.
Pueblo, CO 81006
v--4k
