D TE: September 14, 2011
Michael A. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director /State Engineer
Response to Reclamation Permit Amendment Application Consideration
Division 1 Office, District 3 Water Commissioner
FROM: Sarah Brucker, P.E.._
RE: Brownstone Quarry, File No. M- 1997 -065
Operator: Stone Wholesale, Inc.
Contact: Michael Denison, (307) 386 -2608
NEV4 Sec. 24, Twp. 8 North, Rng. 70 West, 6th P.M., Larimer County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of ground
water must not occur during or after mining operations.
The applicant has indicated plans to use other water for operation of a gang saw at the permit site. The
source of water for this use is to be obtained from an outside source and trucked to the site. Applicant
will need to document that this water was obtained from a legal source, or the water was diverted in
priority under a water right decreed for such industrial use.
COMMENTS: This is an amendment to an existing permit for a stone quarry on a rock outcrop. The
amendment seeks to increase the permitted acreage by 3.03 acres, from 58.75 acres to 61.78 acres. No other
changes are proposed. The entire site will be reclaimed to its original use of pastureland upon completion of
mining operations.
If stormwater runoff is intercepted by this operation and is not diverted or captured in priority, it must be released
to the stream system within 72 hours. This may require a discharge permit from CDPHE -WQCD. Otherwise,
the operator must make replacements for evaporation.
RECENED
SEP 1 4 2011
Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 - 866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
www.water.state.co.us
