August 5, 2011
Mr. Robert Zuber, PE
Environmental Protection Specialist
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Dear Mr. Zuber:
RE: Trapper Mining Inc., Permit C -81 -010
Second Quarter 2011 Sediment Pond Inspections
Clarification to Coyote Pond Accumulated Sediment
This is a response to your letter dated July 29, 2011 concerning the accumulated sediment in Coyote
Pond. The capacity table for the second quarter of 2011 shows the estimated sediment for Coyote Pond
is 39 acre -feet. The inspection report for Coyote Pond states the sediment level for the second quarter of
2011 was minimal. You have asked clarification of this inconsistency.
The 2001 Annual Inspection Report for Coyote Dam reports the sediment to be 38 acre -feet. On July
28 and 30 of 2003 a sediment survey was completed on Coyote Pond. The average sediment
elevation was at 6,298 feet and the sediment impounded was reported to be 38 acre -feet. Another
sediment survey was completed on September 29 2010. The average elevation of sediment was
reported to be at 6,298.1 feet and the volume to be 38 acre -feet. The reported sediment volume has
remained consistent since 2001. The reported elevation of the sediment has been at 6,298 feet since
2003. Seeing that the sediment volume has remained the same for last ten years the inspector reported
the sediment level to be minimal.
The 39 acre -feet that was reported in the data table has been corrected to 38 acre-feet.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Tonia Perkins, P.
