The <br />spill occurred at approximately 5:00 AM on Sunday May 15, 2011. The spill was also reported <br />to the National Response Center and the Colorado Department of Public Health and <br />Environment - Water Quality Control Division. <br />Notice Requirements (3.1.13(2)): <br />(a) Climax Molybdenum, M-1977-342, Tim Haynes <br />(b) (303) 569-3221 Ext. 2284 <br />(c) 5:00 AM, May 15, 2011 <br />(d) Unleaded Gasoline <br />(e) An estimated 120 gallons were spilled with 65 of the gallons released to the storm <br />drain system, no spilled material left the permit area (or affected area), the spilled <br />material flowed across 20 feet of asphalt to the storm drain which reports to Bear Paw <br />Gulch and eventually to the tailings impoundment. <br />(f) Power to the tank system was cut, floor dry material and absorbent booms and mats <br />were used to clean up the spill, Climax's Spill Prevention, Control and <br />Countermeasure procedures were followed, three (3) 50-gallon drums of material <br />were recovered and will be disposed of properly. <br />Additional information: an employee of Climax was filling their car with gasoline, the employee <br />drove off with the nozzle in their car, the end of the nozzle broke off and the hose fittings at the <br />tank were damaged, the hose end was outside of the secondary containment. The storm drains <br />are flowing between 2,000 and 8,000 gallon per hour due to the spring runoff.
